PROCEDURE FOR CONVERSION OF SA DRIVERS LICENSE TO A MAURITIAN DRIVERS LICENSE

  • For the conversion of the SA drivers license the first thing you need to do is get an attestation letter from SA confirming that your SA license is valid.  If it has expired you can’t convert it.
  • Email a copy of the front and the back of your license to your valid SA license CTC@rtmc.co.za, advising that you need an attestation letter as you wish to convert your SA license to a Mauritian one (they need to know it’s for Mauritius as there are different certs for different countries).
  • They generally email you back within a week advising that it is ready for collection.
  • Anyone can collect for you.  They just need your name and ID number.  You could even get DHL to collect and send it to you in Mauritius.
  • Once you have that you need to copy the below sample letter and go with the letter to the traffic branch of the line barracks Police station in Port Louis with the original documents as listed in the letter, as well as a copy of each document. For females you need your marriage certificate etc to show any previous names.  As you enter the Traffic Branch you take a number at the door and they will direct you to counter 8 where you wait until they call your number.
  • You submit all of your documents and letter.  They will give you an appointment date for about 2 weeks later.
  • You then go back on your appointment date with all the same documents, as well 2 photos and MUR 1500.
  • They do the application and give you a receipt.
  • They give you a date for collection which is again about 2 weeks later.
